How to distribute mobile Internet from a smartphone

In today's world, it is important to have affordable mobile Internet. Sometimes, it happens that on one smartphone there is Internet, and on one (or several) devices - not. Almost any modern smartphone on the Android or iOS operating system can distribute the Internet to computers, smartphones and tablets. To organize such a network, it is enough to activate mobile Internet and connect other devices via Wi-Fi, USB or Bluetooth.
In this article, we will talk about all three methods, and you will be able to independently choose how best to distribute mobile Internet from a smartphone to other devices in your particular case.

For Android

For different phone models, the setup process may be slightly different, but the essence remains the same. To get started, connect to the mobile Internet. In the "Settings" we find the section for managing wireless networks. This section may also be called "SIM cards and networks."
Next - “Modem Mode” or “Access Point” and activate the desired connection method: via USB, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. You can also set a password here to protect your wireless network if you use Wi-Fi.
After all the settings, other devices will be able to connect to your gadget.
If you use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to connect, then the network name will be the same as the model of the distributing smartphone.
To connect your smartphone as a USB modem for your laptop, do the following:

  • First connect the smartphone to the laptop with a cable.
  • Go to Settings> Wireless & networks> turn on USB tethering.
  • Select the created connection on the PC in the Network Control Center.
  • If you connect a laptop via USB to a smartphone and the Internet on the latter does not turn on automatically, most likely the problem is the need to install a driver.

For iPhone (iOS)

This instruction is based on the example of iOS 11. The setup process on different versions (especially earlier) of the OS may vary slightly.
We open the section "Settings" and the item "Cellular communication".
Open the sub-menu item "Modem Mode" and activate it. If “Modem mode” cannot be turned on, contact your operator and check if this mode is available in your tariff plan.
In iPhone (iOS), a whole instruction is opened on how to connect a computer or other devices to a smartphone in any way.
Via Bluetooth, you can connect devices on Android and PC to the iPhone in modem mode, and select Wi-Fi to connect other iOS devices.
Before connecting the computer to the iPhone via USB, install the latest version of iTunes. If the “Can I trust my computer?” Dialog box appears, answer yes.
If all the settings are made, you can use the mobile Internet on any of them, including what is in “modem” mode. If the Internet does not work, then you need to check whether your tariff plan supports modem mode. The operator has this information.
